It All Started With Vans Old Skool
February 1, 2010 12:07 am SportsVans shoes were founded in 1966, by pro skateboarders Paul Van Doren. He came up with the simple idea that he should be able to sale skateboarding shoes directly to the public. Cutting out the middleman will enable the public to purchase shoes at a reasonable price. Paul worked with his partners to develop Vans shoes. Little did they know that they were about to embark upon an entire new industry. The original Vans old skool tennis shoes came in only three styles. These original styles just screamed “off the wall” and that is how these shoes got their name. Skateboarders were no longer the only ones wearing these shoes. They become immensely popular among kids and teens everywhere.
What made Vans old skool shoes, so unique was the diamond pattern sole on the bottom of the shoe. The vertical lines were not added until later. These lines made the shoes stronger. This waffle pattern is also proprietary to Vans. While this look became a trend that was starting too expanded beyond kids and teens, it was originally created for skateboarders. However, these shoes become popular among the skates, surfer, and snowboarders. With so many athletes in different sports in love with these tennis shoes they wanted to see more styles and colors. They wanted to see more colors and different combinations. Vans heard their customer requests, and they now have over 60 different styles. At one time, you could even order a customer pair that you personally designed.
Everyone remembers those black and white checkered board Vans Old skool slip-ons that Jeff Spicoli wore in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Can you believe that was the start of the Vans Empire? It was that movie that gave Vans national attention. Since Vans has been around so long, they are considered to be the leader in classics skateboarding shoes. They are also one of the main brands collectors look for, and will pay more than the original cost of the shoe. Ever since Fast Times, Vans has spent a considerable deal of time expanding their empire. Over the years, they have been able to diversify. They now have products that range from shoes to appeal. Their shoes include classic deck shoes, slip-ons, high performance board shoes, sandals and snowboard shoes. Their appeal includes shirts, pants and accessories for both males and females.
