Urijah Faber on joining the big leagues
January 18, 2012 10:29 am Recreation and SportsFormer WEC superstar Urijah Faber is a perfect example of a big fish moving from a little pond into a big lake. Recently Urijah Faber UFC made the move over to the largest MMA platform when he moved to the UFC. His first fights were to take place in the newly added featherweight class, but with much tension Faber thought that a move down would be more advantageous for his career. His first bantamweight belt proved to be just that! Exciting fromt he start to finish as he walked through his first opponents. After some time Faber received the number one spot in the division, only to face his long time rival Dominick Cruz. The two fought an all out war for five rounds, leaving the fans wanting more. When the smoke settled the judges saw the decision in favor of the champ Dominick Cruz. A crushed Faber returned to his camp to rebuild. The UFC still interested in the talent, instantly gave the star another big name in former WEC champ Brian Bowles. Many analyst were curious if Urijah Faber next fight could hang with the heavy handed Bowles. Faber proved to be worthy, taking out Bowles in the first round by submission, looking the best he had in his already amazing career. With the only other top contender out of the way, Faber was once again the top contender. Usually such a quick title shot would not come, but Faber actually carries a victory over the current champ from their WEC days.
