Golf for Beginners–Where to Begin?

4:10 am Recreation and Sports

If one has ever watched beginners’ golf practices, it doesn’t take long to figure out who is on a successful path to improve their overall game and who is going to continue digging mole holes with their clubs.  There are certain things one can do to successfully learn to play golf.  Like anything, planning ahead and being proactive can save a lot of frustration and money because one has learned some tips, habits, and practices that can be invaluable in mastering the game.

Probably the very first step in learning to play golf is to invest in a beginner golf guide.  Taking the time to read about the game certainly can alleviate a lot of stress.  Many people just simply go out and buy expensive sets of clubs only to get frustrated and then they just sit around until an opportune garage sale.  Many times, it is wise to just rent clubs at first or to buy an inexpensive set of clubs until one learns how to choose the right clubs, how one’s swing will work, etc.  This is the same story with golf balls.  A lot of people buy expensive types of balls only to lose them by the dozen.  Used golf balls or inexpensive ones will do the trick initially.  You can also find out useful information about footwear.

The next step would be to see if one can find somewhere to take reasonably priced golf lessons.  You do not need to learn from the best pro around at first–just find someone who is good at the game (usually most courses have a “pro” that is available) and invest a little bit of monies to continue to learn the game in an actual manner.  Learning proper stances, swing patterns, and balance are crucial tasks that often time require an outside eye and/or a video camera.

After that, it just becomes like many other things in life–a matter of practice.  Golf is a game that especially requires a lot of it to be successful.  Most people are not going to be the next Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods but you can play and enjoy the game of golf until well into the golden years of life.  Hardly any other sport is like that.
