Dominick Cruz calls Urijah Faber a fake former champ

Dominick Cruz, Urijah Faber

It didn’t take long for the war of words to amp up as Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber next fight were announced as coaches of the upcoming UFC TUF show. Both men will coach a team of newcomer fighters in a house in vegas for 12 weeks. The teams will go had to head in a tournament style fight bracket. Winner will receive the title of TUF season 14 winner and will be awarded a UFC contract.

Probably the best news of all this is the fact that at the end, Urijah Faber and Cruz will put their long awaited battle to an end by capping off a third fight between the two. Both hold one victory over the other and both have known what its like to be a defending world champion. One harsh comment to come out recently was that Cruz felt that Faber was a “Fake Champ,” meaning that his WEC belt did not mean as much as a UFC title. True the level of competition has increased since Faber’s days as the champion, but it is perhaps unfair to discredit Faber’s reign. He defeated Cruz when holding the WEC title along with many other fighters that went on to prove to be spectacular UFC fighters. Brian Bowles will tell you that Urijah Faber is a much more improved fighter since those days as he suffered a first round submission loss to the new top contender. Faber will be coming in to the bout an underdog, which he is not use to at all, but still has that submission game that can pull an upset.
