A Brief Biography of Emmanuel Adebayor

On February 2, 1984, Emmanuel Adebayor was born in Lomé, Togo. His parents are Nigerian, and his family’s ethnic group is the Yoruba group. Adebayor is best known as a soccer player. He currently plays for Manchester City, where he wears number 25. His position when he plays is striker. He has played for Manchester City since 2009. He has also played for Metz, Monaco and Arsenal. He also plays on the Togo National Team. In 2008 Adebayor was named the African Footballer of the Year.

Emmanuel Adebayor started playing for a sporting club in Lomé, which is what he was doing when he was discovered by the French Club Metz. He started playing for them in 1999, and played there until 2003. He then signed with Monaco, where he played until 2006. He helped Monaco to reach the Championship League finals in 2003.

In 2006 Adebayor signed with the Arsenal Football Club in Holloway, North London. As a Gunner he scored 21 minutes into his first game, which was against Birmingham City. When he was with Arsenal he was given the nickname “Baby Kanu”, after former Arsenal player Nwankwo Kanu. Adebayor scored a total of 46 goals while playing for Arsenal. In 2009 he signed a five year deal with the Manchester City Football Club, a deal rumored to be worth 25 million British pounds sterling. He was suspended three games for violent conduct after an incident where one of his former Arsenal teammates, Van Persie, accused Adebayor of kicking the ball in his face on purpose.

Emmanuel Adebayor also plays for the Togo international team. He was also eligible to play for Nigeria, but chose instead to play for his birth country. In 2006 the team qualified for the African Cup of Nations. On February 10, 2009, Adebayor was named the 2008 African Footballer of the year, the first time the honor went to a player from Togo. On January 8, 2010, the Togo team bus was on its way to Angola for the African Cup of Nations. The bus was attacked with gunfire by a gang. The entire team, including Adebayor, survived the attack, but three people, including the bus driver, we killed. The Togo National Team then withdrew from the tournament.
